Nikola Ćurčin: LIVING ART AND THE MUSIC OF THE GUITAR

Gallery SueRyder, Belavista Square, Herceg Novi (Old Town).

Nikola Ćurčin (Kotor, 1971) studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje in the Department of Graphic Design. His interests include comics, illustration, painting, animation, and in addition to all that – music.

So far, he has had about fifteen solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group and humanitarian exhibitions. He has illustrated books and created theater posters. His poster for the play Tribunal is part of the collection at the Museum of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade.

Art historians say about Ćurčin that he is a "mature draftsman and graphic master," and that "his line is clear and follows the form." Besides galleries, he has exhibited in "different," unexpected places: at the Forte Mare fortress and in the Irish Pub Bonaca, and alongside the opening of exhibitions, he organized interesting after-parties, turning the usual opening speeches into all-evening experiences.

In the Orka club on the Herceg Novi stairs, in the shadow of the ancient Kanli Tower, he played a complete recording of a concert by one of his favorite musicians, Wilko Johnson, while he himself drew scenes that were shown on the screen live. He then organized a prize game in the Got pub – his drawing was the first prize, a bottle of wine was the second, and the third prize was a mug of beer.

Ćurčin is the founder of the Herceg Novi Comic Festival, which has since gained regional renown. Because of all this, he has long been ranked among the best authors not only in Montenegro but also in the region.

"I have always been painting and drawing. And curiosity is fundamental: looking at everything with open eyes and searching for everything. Searching, constant searching – that's the only thing that matters, everything else is just storytelling through drawing, a picture for the buyer, decoration for the wall. Searching is the essence of painting. Of art. Of science. Of life..." – explains Ćurčin.
