WEDNESDAY 11th MARCH - GUITAR ART CLASSIC Atrium of the National Museum

This March Belgrade will become the world capital of the guitar and music world through Guitar Art Festival. During 6 festival days, from 10th to 15th March, 13 big concerts and various featuring programs will be held, and Belgrade will be visited by more than 130 most renowned guitarists from all over the world.

Lovers of classical guitar will have the opportunity to listen again to guitar superstars and leading classical musicians after many years of  break in the atrium of the National Museum. The special offer Guitar Art Classic also includes the world premiere of the piece "Recuerdos de Belgrado" in the main hall of Kolarac Endowment.

The concerts are organised with the support of the Embassy of Portugal and the Embassy of Spain in Serbia.

19:00 ISTVAN RÖMER & GORAN LISTEŠ (Croatia)

A guitar duo that the audience in Belgrade has been waiting to listen to for a long time.

The brilliant launch of István Römer's career was marked by numerous prizes at international competitions, including the first prizes that he won in the mid-1980's in Mettmann (Germany), at the "Andrés Segovia" Competition in Palma de Mallorca, and, a little bit later, in Viña del Mar in Chile. Subsequently, he performed intensively in Europe, Latin America and Asia as a soloist and in duets with cellist Valter Dešpalj and clarinetist Milko Pravdić. As a soloist and chamber musician he has released eight compact discs. Since 1984 he teaches at the Music Academy in Zagreb and at the annual Guitar Summer School in Koper, Slovenia. He also led master classes in Greece, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Austria, Germany and Portugal.

Goran Listeš, born in Split, studied guitar simultaneously at the Zagreb Academy of Music (with Darko Petrinjak) and at Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz, Austria (with Marga Bäuml-Klasinc). He very successfully participated at many competitions both in his home country and abroad and obtained high prizes among which the most important are: First Prize at the 15th International Jeunesses Musicales Competition in Belgrade (1985), at "Fernando Sor" International Guitar Competition in Rome (1989) and First Prize at the "Mauro Giuliani" International Guitar Competition in Bari, Italy (1989). In 1990 he was awarded the First Prize (a Medal of Queen Fabiola) at the International Competition "Printemps de la Guitare" in Walcourt, Belgium, together with the SABAM (Composer's Union of Belgium) Prize for the best interpretation of a Belgian work, as well as the Press Prize.

 

20:15 GUITAR QUARTET "CONCORDIS" (Portugal)

The Concordis Guitar Quartet was founded in 2005, and is currently formed by Eudoro Grade, Francisco Morais Franco, Jorge Pires and Pedro Rufino. The partnership between these musicians with their personalities and distinct influences, creates the motto for a mystic beautiful sonority enhanced by the togetherness of the guitars.

Stylistically speaking, this quartet spotlights Portuguese music, some exclusively arranged for Concordis Guitar Quartet. An example of this it the singular arrangements of songs by Carlos Paredes and Zeca Afonso, by the composer Pedro Louzeiro, which are presented on the first CD – “Gatherings”. Naturally, besides this unique choice of program, the Concordis Guitar Quartet also includes the general repertoire for this ensemble, playing some of the most well-known composers.

Concordis Guitar Quartet has been playing extensively throughout Portugal and abroad, in multiple events.

21:30 RAFAEL  AGUIRRE (Spain)

Rafael Aguirre is an internationally acclaimed musician whose deep understanding of music, dazzling virtuosity and immensely diverse repertoire has taken him to 34 countries. The beginning of his extraordinary career was marked by winning thirteen first prizes at international competitions (including the Tarrega Competition and Pro Musicis, New York). He is currently one of the most celebrated guitarists worldwide.

Rafael performs regularly in prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Vienna Konzerthaus, Moscow Tchaikovsky Hall, Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich, Hamburg Laeiszhalle and Elbphilharmonie, Palau de la Musica in Barcelona, King's Place London, Saint Petersburg Philharmonia, Cuba’s National Theatre, the Hyogo Performing Arts Center (Japan) and the Seoul Arts Center (South Korea).

An extensive repertoire, with more than 30 concertos for guitar and orchestra has allowed him to perform with the KBS Symphony Orchestra in Korea, the Orchestre National de Lyon, Toulon Opera Symphony, Bruckner Orchester Linz, Baden-Baden Philharmonic, Thüringen Philharmonic, Pforzheim Chamber Orchestra...

Following in the classical tradition of Andrés Segovia and Narciso Yepes, Rafael Aguirre additionally seeks to expand and innovate in the repertoire of his instrument, incorporating music from different styles, such as flamenco, chamber music, pop, film music, or Spanish and Latinamerincan folk music. His collaborations with contemporary composers have given him the opportunity to premier works by Sergio Assad (Grammy Award winner), Joaquín Clerch, Agustín Castilla Avila, David del Puerto and Daniel Real, among others.

At the age of 16 he made his orchestral debut with the “Concierto de Aranjuez” and the Malaga Youth Symphony Orchestra touring Spain and Morocco. He was awarded scholarships from the Andalusian Government and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation that enabled his studies at the Düsseldorf Hochschule Robert Schumann in Germany with Prof. Joaquin Clerch, where he graduated with highest honors. He later studied with Professor Michael Lewin at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
