YAMANDU COSTA

Brazil

Yamandu Costa, 7-string guitar virtuoso, was born in Paso Fundo, Brazil. When he was seven, he started learning the guitar with his father, Algacir Costa, leader of the band Os Fronteiriços. Later, he perfected his technique with the Argentinian virtuoso Lucio Yanello. When he was 17, he played for the first time in Sao Paulo at the Circuito Cultural Banco do Brasil, and immediately after the performance, he was recognized as one of the most gifted guitarists in Brazil.

Yamandu created a unique style that is somewhere between typical music from the south of Brazil, choro and samba, with acrobatic passages, fast tempos, and yet very delicate and melodic parts. The career he built over the years is based on what he can offer the audience – musical magic. He has performed with Bobby McFerrin, Melody Gardot, Richard Galliano, Daniel Mille, Stochelo Rosenberg, Pepe Romero…
